Creation to Christ - Unit 2

Creation to Christ - Unit 2

This week we read about some of the false religions established likely by Nimrod.  He rebelled against Gods command to spread out and fill the earth and he built the Tower of Babel.  God confused the peoples languages after the flood because they were disobedient.

God promised that through Abram's offspring all the people on the earth would be blessed and the promised Savior would be born from his family tree.  We learned that there were 10 generations from Adam to the flood and 10 more from Noah to Abram.

We read about a cylinder seal of King Urukh that has been unearthed.  The kids were excited to make their own cylinder seal to sign their cuneiform tablet.

This one likes to get messy.  So she was the official dough mixer!

First, the kids wrote their names in Sharpie on a piece of paper.  We wrapped it around the cylinder seal and they used a push pin to make markings of the letters.  Once they removed the paper they could see an outline of the area they needed to carve.   (kinda like pumpkin carving)

I would definitely say to make sure that the cylinder is cleared of any debris from the carving before it dries as the little pieces will clutter the embossing.

After the cylinder had hardened, the kids gently rolled their cylinder into the tablet. Slow and steady will keep it from pulling up the letters.....   We had to start over on one of them.

The kids used a paper clip to write their cuneiform characters into their tablets.  Overall, I think this turned out great!  The kids were really proud of their Sumerian clay tablets.

We started reading 'The Golden Bull' this week.  The children were all captivated by the first several chapters often asking me to continue reading.  This book so far is giving us a wonderful  and unique view into a culture of other children growing up in early civilization and their struggle to survive.

Our poetry study and watercolor painting this week was Robert Frost's "The Pasture."

The kids painted a pasture spring with twigs sticking up through the surface of the spring.  They created a shadowing along side of the twigs.  I absolutely love the blend of poetry and art appreciation.  This just may be my favorite part about Creation to Christ so far!

The kids made animal track books in Science.  They learned that mammals must sweat to cool off and they also nurse their young, are warm-blooded, and have vertebrae.   We added a dog track to our track book and the kids learned that in a pack there is a pecking order.

The kids drew and labeled the parts of the paw.  We also added it into our Science notebooking pages.

We were able to find the locations of various places in Turkey on our globe and then they labeled on their own maps.

Math  - Teaching Textbooks & CLE,  spelling lessons - Explode the Code, and Grammar (First Language Lesson.... All went well this week too.  Two weeks complete!  Thankful we are starting to get into the groove of the new year.

See you next week!
Be blessed!
