Creation to Christ - Unit 3

This week after learning about more tracks (specifically bear tracks) in Science, the kids were determined to pack up all their best exploring tools, compasses, and snacks to head out into our backyard forest to search for bears.   They knew exactly what they were looking for after adding the bear footprints into our animal track books.

Although, we didn't find any bear, raccoon, or skunk tracks this time, we did find really cool deer tracks near the creek and some really pretty red mushrooms.  This one looks like a heart!

The kids cut out the animal shapes to add to our map in their correct location of where the animals may be found.  Last week we placed dogs, raccoons, and otters.  This week we added different types of bears.

Our science worksheet was defining romp and holt and the kids were able to make some raccoon tracks across the bottom of their page.

We wanted to include vocabulary into our school year for words we get stuck on.  This week we added covenant.  I found this awesome spiral bound notebook just for vocabulary from lakeshore.  You can find it on amazon here:  Vocabulary Journal

For our history art project, we made an illusion to remind us that God told Isaac that He would make Isaac's descendants as numerous as the stars.  We cut our paper and drew vertical lines 1" apart.  We cut star shapes and traced them onto our paper.

We colored every other column alternating between the stars and columns....

I let the kids choose the color they wanted but, the black and white really stands out to me.  They really enjoyed this simple project.

We added the star illusion to our history pages.  The kids are really struggling with writing small enough to fit everything into the assigned boxes.  We will have to keep working on that.

We took our science experiment outside this week  to see which would melt fastest.  The ice cube under the black or the ice cube under the white sheet.

Another observation was that our black pavement  is much hotter than the lighter pavement.  We learned that the black sheet absorbed more light causing it to be warmer and melt faster than the white sheet.

We learned that this is extremely important for the polar bear's dark skin underneath his coat to help him stay warm.  We copied our results onto our lab sheet.

Our water color supplies have definitely expanded this year!

Our water color painting this week was of Robert Frost's poem, 'A Peck of Gold.'  They copied a stanza to glue on their painting.  (Some had to use 2 to get their cursive writing to fit!)

These paintings turned out so soft and pretty.  I am still loving the art and poetry appreciation.

We hope everyone had a great week. Please comment below if you find our blog helpful or resourceful and as always take a moment to like our Facebook page here:  https://www.facebook.com/takingoffwithhomeschool/
